Riverland Community College fell to Williston State College 13–2 on Monday at Kino Sports Complex Stadium, as a big third inning proved to be the difference.
The game was scoreless through the first two innings before Williston State broke through with six runs in the top of the third. They continued to add pressure throughout the game, scoring in four separate innings to secure the win.
Riverland finished with four hits on the afternoon. Freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance and drove in the Blue Devils' lone RBI. Sophomore outfielder Dylan Carlson (Edgeley, ND) recorded a hit and scored a run, while sophomore outfielder Roland Figueroa (Ponce, PR) added another base knock.
On the mound, Riverland utilized four pitchers in the contest. Riley Jax (Adams, MN) took the loss, working three innings. The Blue Devils pitching staff battled but struggled with command, issuing 13 walks on the day, which Williston State capitalized on to create scoring opportunities.
Defensively, Riverland played a clean game, committing no errors.
