Riverland Completes Sweep Of Central Lakes

Riverland Community College outslugged Central Lakes College-Brainerd 15-8 in a thrilling, high-scoring matchup at home on March 27.

The Blue Devils jumped out early with a four-run first inning and never looked back, adding three more in the second and an impressive five-run third to build a comfortable lead. Riverland added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings, finishing with a total of 15 runs on 10 hits.

Sophomore 3B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) led the offensive attack with four hits and two RBIs, while sophomore outfielder Jonathan Mora (Miami, FL) contributed two doubles and two RBIs. Freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) added three RBIs, and freshman outfielder Hideki Ohira and freshman catcher Ethan Mott (Rockford, IL) each drove in multiple runs. Sophomore 2B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR) also chipped in with four runs scored and two sacrifice flies.

On the mound, Freshman pitcher Blake Hershberger pitched a complete game, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out nine, earning the win for Riverland. The Blue Devils' defense played cleanly behind him, helping secure the victory.

Central Lakes College-Brainerd managed 10 hits and eight runs, but Riverland's offensive depth proved too much to overcome.
