Riverland Picks Up Win Over Hibbing

Riverland Community College rallied late to secure an 11-6 victory over Minnesota North College-Hibbing in a high-scoring home matchup on March 27.

The Blue Devils jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning and added a run in the fifth before breaking the game open with an eight-run sixth inning. Riverland finished with 11 runs on nine hits, showcasing a balanced offensive attack.

Sophmore 3B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) and sophomore outfielder Jonathan Mora (Miami, FL) led the charge with three RBIs each, while freshman outfielder Hideki Ohira added two RBIs and freshman catcher Ethan Mott (Rockford, IL) drove in one run. Sophomore 2B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR) scored once, and freshman shortstop Christiaan Koehler (Red Wing, MN) contributed a sac fly and an RBI. Ransom, Mora, and Hideki Ohira each recorded doubles, and Ethan Mott stole a base to help keep the pressure on the visitors.

Sophomore pitcher Melvin Ortiz (Lajas, PR) earned the win on the mound, pitching seven innings and allowing six runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out seven. Riverland's pitching and timely hitting in the sixth inning proved decisive in the comeback.
