Riverland Picks Up Win Via Run Rule Over Vermilion

Riverland Community College delivered a commanding offensive performance to defeat Minnesota North College-Vermilion 14-4 at home on March 27.

The Blue Devils erupted for 10 runs in the second inning, setting the tone early, and added three more in the fourth and one in the fifth to secure a decisive win. Riverland finished with 15 hits and 13 RBIs, spreading the production across multiple hitters.

Sophomore 2B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR) led the attack with three RBIs and a double, while freshman 1B Carson Gehrke (Oregon, WI) matched him with three RBIs and a double. Freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) hit a home run and drove in two, sophomomre 3B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) added an RBI and a stolen base, and sophomore outfielder Jonathan Mora (Miami, FL), freshman outfielder Hideki Ohira, freshman catcher Ethan Mott (Rockford, IL), and freshman shortstop Christiaan Koehler (Red Wing, MN) all contributed key hits and RBIs. Additional doubles came from Jonathan Mora, Raul Martinez, and Carson Gehrke.

On the mound, Sophomore pitcher Khalil Fernandez (Arecibo, PR) earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out five. His steady performance kept Riverland in control throughout the game.
