The Riverland Community College baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to power past Ridgewater College, earning an 8-5 victory on April 15.
After a back-and-forth start, Riverland broke the game open in the fifth. The Blue Devils capitalized on timely hitting and patience at the plate to score six runs in the inning, turning a tight contest into a three-run advantage they would not give up.
Sophomore CF Roland Figueroa (Ponce, PR) delivered the biggest swing of the day with a grand slam, finishing with four RBIs. Freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) also had a strong performance at the plate, recording two hits and driving in three runs.
sophomore 3B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR) and Figueroa each scored twice, while freshman SS Christiaan Koehler (Red Wing, MN) added an RBI as Riverland made the most of six hits and six walks.
On the mound, freshman RHP Justin Joriman (Roseville, MN) earned the win in relief, allowing just one run over 3.1 innings while working around traffic. Freshman RHP Blake Hershberger got the start, and sophomore RHP Riley Jax (Adams, MN) closed the door to record the save.
