Riverland Community College rode a dominant performance on the mound and timely hitting to a 7-0 shutout victory over Rochester Community and Technical College in MCAC Southern Division play.
Sophomore right-hander Riley Jax (Adams, MN) was outstanding, tossing a complete game shutout. Jax scattered nine hits over seven innings while striking out five and working around three walks to keep Rochester off the scoreboard all afternoon.
Riverland (28-11, 10-3) broke through in the second inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues. Freshman catcher Ethan Mott (Rockford, IL) delivered an RBI single before sophomore 3B Raul Martinez (Santa Isabel, PR) followed with a two-run double to give the Devils an early 3-0 advantage.
The Devils added to their lead in the fifth inning when Sophomore RF Dave Gonzaga (Santa Isabel, PR) lined a two-run single to right, pushing the lead to five. Riverland put the game out of reach in the sixth as sophomore 2B Peyton Ransom (Austin, MN) drove in two more with a single, extending the lead to 7-0.
Offensively, Riverland tallied 11 hits on the day. Martinez, Ransom, and Gonzaga each recorded two hits and two RBIs to lead the attack, while Mott scored twice and added an RBI.
