Riverland Picks Up Run Rule Victory Over Minnesota Post Grad

Riverland Community College used an explosive offensive performance to defeat Minnesota Post Grad 13-2 on April 29.

Riverland wasted no time setting the tone, scoring five runs in the first inning to take early control. The Devils continued to apply pressure, adding runs in each of the next three innings, including a five-run fourth to put the game out of reach.

Riverland (31-12) tallied 10 hits and showed balance throughout the lineup. Sophomore Ben Helfer (Zumbrota, MN) and freshman utility Austin Swenson (Adams, MN) each recorded two hits and drove in two runs, while freshman LF Hideki Ohira and sophomore CF Roland Figueroa (Ponce, PR) both homered and combined for three RBIs. Freshman C Ethan Mott (Rockford, IL) also added two RBIs in the victory.

On the mound, Riverland used a staff approach. Sophomore RHP Riley Jax (Adams, MN) and sophomore LHP Melvin Ortiz (Lajas, PR) each worked scoreless innings to open the game before freshman RHP Justin Joriman (Roseville, MN) earned the win, allowing two runs over three innings while striking out three.

Minnesota Post Grad was limited to four hits in the contest, with their only runs coming in the third and fifth innings.

Riverland's early offensive surge and consistent pressure throughout the lineup proved to be the difference as the Devils secured the midweek win.
