Riverland Community College opened the new year with a 75–66 win over Northland Community & Technical College on Friday evening at Central Lakes College Invitational.
Riverland built an early advantage behind a strong first half, shooting efficiently and controlling the glass to take a 45–34 lead into the break.
Riverland answered each push by the Pioneers in the second half with timely baskets and rebounding. As a team, Riverland held a 46–26 rebounding advantage, including 20 offensive boards! Sophomore forward Tristan Coleman (Maywood, IL) notched a double-double pouring in a team-high netting 18 points, 16 rebounds (7 Offensive) & dished out 4 assists. Sophomore forward Joe Poyser (Wildwood, FL) 14 points & 9 rebounds. Freshman guard Cam Fearon (Margate, FL) 14 points. Freshman guard Isaiah Lindor (Miami, FL) 9 points. Sophomore guard O'marion Miller (Minneapolis, MN) 9 points.
Riverland finished the game shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from three-point range. Northland shot 45.1 percent overall and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc but committed eight turnovers and struggled to match Riverland's physicality on the boards.
