Riverland Community College picked up a crucial NJCAA North Plains District & Region XIII Tournament Semifinal win over Anoka Ramsey 85-75 in Coon Rapids, MN.
Riverland used a strong start taking a 37-31 lead into the locker room.
Riverland controlled the glass, outrebounding Anoka-Ramsey 44-26, including 17 offensive rebounds that created valuable second-chance opportunities. The Blue Devils were also outstanding at the free throw line, shooting 84% (21-of-25).
Freshman guard Cam Fearon (Margate, FL) led the RCC attack pouring in a team-high 19 points. Sophomore forward Tristan Coleman (Maywood, IL) 13 points & 4 rebounds. Sophomore forward Joe Poyser (Miami, FL) notched a double-double 12 points (5-6 FG) & snatched a game-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Lubab Kambalo (Sioux Falls, SD) 11 points. Freshman guard De'Vaun Suggs-Dabney (St. Paul, MN) 11 points. Sophomore guard Tyson Helms (Tucson, AZ) 7 points & 5 assists. Freshman center Elhadji Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) 6 points & 7 rebounds. Sophomore guard Romelle Bell (Chicago, IL) 6 points & 6 rebounds.
Defensively, Riverland protected the rim with six blocked shots, highlighted by four from Elhadji Thiam, while forcing 12 turnovers.
#5 Devils improve to 28-2 (11-1 MCAC South) on the season with the win.
