Riverland Community College picked up a crucial NJCAA North Plains District & Region XIII Tournament Championship win over Ridgewater 90-82 in Coon Rapids, MN.
Riverland shot an efficient 46.5% from the field and controlled the glass, outrebounding Ridgewater 47-36, including 15 offensive boards that created valuable second-chance opportunities in the win!
Sophomore forward Tristan Coleman (Maywood, IL) poured in a team high 17 points and snatched 7 rebounds. Sophomore guard Romelle Bell (Chicago, IL) 15 points (7-11 FG) & 7 rebounds. Sophomore guard Lubab Kambalo (Sioux Falls, SD) 13 points (3-3 3PT). Sophomore forward Joe Poyser (Wildwood, FL) notched a double-double 12 points & snatched 10 rebounds. Freshman center Elhadji Thiam (Dakar, Senegal) 12 points (6-10 FG) & 4 rebounds. Sophomore guard Tyson Helms (Tucson, AZ) 10 points & 7 assists.
With the win the Blue Devils secure their second NJCAA North Plains District & Region XIII Championship in school history. The Blue Devils had fallen in back-to-back championship games the past two years. Riverland now secures the automatic bid from Region XIII and will be going to the NJCAA National Tournament for the fourth time in five years! The NJCAA National Tournament will be held at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, New York March 11-14. Riverland will find out their seed and potential opponents on Wednesday March 4th at 5pm during the NJCAA Selection Show.
Sophomore forward Tristan Coleman (Maywood, IL) was named North Plains District Region XIII Tournament MVP! Head Coach Derek Hahn was named North Plains District Region XIII Coach of the Year!
