Riverland Picks Up NJCAA National Tournament Win 90-82 Over Ridgewater

Riverland Picks Up NJCAA National Tournament Win 90-82 Over Ridgewater

Riverland Community College picked up a crucial NJCAA National Tournament win 97–89 over Ridgewater on March 13 in Herkimer, New York.

It was a tightly contested battle throughout the first half, with Riverland holding a slim 43–42 lead at the break.

In the second half, Riverland's efficiency became the difference. The Devils shot an impressive 52.1% from the field and dominated the glass with a 45–38 rebounding edge, including 12 offensive boards that created key second-chance opportunities.

Sophomore guard Tyson Helms (Tucson, AZ) poured in 25 points (10-17 FG), snatched 7 rebounds & dished out 5 assists. Sophomore forward Tristan Coleman (Maywood, IL) also poured in 25 points & 7 rebounds. Sophomore forward Joe Poyser (Miami, FL) 20 points (9-9 FG), 6 rebounds & 5 blocks! Freshman guard Isaiah Lindor (Miami, FL) notched a double-double 14 points & snatched 12 rebounds! Freshman guard De'Vaun Suggs-Dabney (St. Paul, MN) 11 points, 5 rebounds & 3 assists.

Ridgewater got strong contributions beyond Tyrese Mayo, including 23 points and 12 rebounds from DeAndre Holloway and 12 points with 8 assists from Brenton McKinney, but struggled to contain Riverland's balanced attack down the stretch.

Riverland's ability to convert at a high rate, win the rebounding battle, and get production across the lineup ultimately proved too much, as they closed out the game to advance with a strong second-half performance.

#2 Devils improve to 30-3 (11-1 MCAC South) on the season with the win. RCC will play in the 5th place game against Joliet (IL) at 12pm tomorrow.
