Riverland Men’s Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw at Home Against Hamline JV

Austin, Minn. — September 3, 2025 — The Riverland Community College men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Hamline University's JV squad on Wednesday night at Wescott Athletic Complex.

The Blue Devils struck first in the 25th minute when midfielder Joel Thawng (Austin, Minnesota) found the back of the net on an unassisted goal, giving Riverland a 1-0 lead. Freshman goalkeeper Callum Campbell (Livingston, Scotland) held strong through the remainder of the first half, keeping Hamline scoreless heading into the break.

Hamline equalized in the 60th minute, converting a penalty kick to level the score at 1-1. Despite several chances on both sides, neither team could find the game-winner in the final 23 minutes of play.

Campbell anchored the Riverland defense with five saves in the match. Offensively, the Blue Devils tallied 16 total shots, seven on goal, led by Thawng, Joel Thawng (5 shots, 3 on goal). 

The Blue Devils (0-1-1) return to action Friday at home against Trinity Bible College.
