Riverland men's soccer delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night, defeating Anoka-Ramsey Community College 3–0 at home.
The Blue Devils controlled play from start to finish, outshooting the visitors 20–0 while showcasing a balanced attack and a disciplined defensive effort. Sophomore defender Josh Jones (Wirral, England) sparked the scoring just before halftime, converting in the 45th minute off an assist from Joel Thawng (Austin, MN).
Jones doubled the lead midway through the second half, finishing in the 61st minute on a feed from Owen Spaeth (Rochester, MN). Riverland capped the scoring in the 87th minute when defender Nelson Powell (Frankston, Australia) found the back of the net, set up by Flynn Perry (Farnham, England).
Defensively, Riverland was flawless. Goalkeeper Callum Campbell (Livingston, Scotland) recorded a clean sheet with six saves, supported by a back line that denied Anoka-Ramsey any shots on goal.
Riverland's offense was relentless, with Jones leading the team in shots (6) and goals (2). Spaeth and Perry each added assists, while Powell sealed the victory with his late strike.
The win lifts Riverland's record to (3-2 overall - 1-0 MCAC) as the Blue Devils continue to build momentum in the early season. Riverland returns to action at home Friday night agaisnt Viterbo JV.
