Riverland Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 In NJCAA Midwest District Championship

Riverland Men's Soccer closed out the 2025 season with a heart breaking 2–1 loss to visiting Joliet Junior College in the NJCAA Midwest District Championship Game Saturday.

Joliet struck first in the 37th minute when Linus Asenkerschbaumer converted off a setup from Francisco Sanches Do Nascimento to take a 1–0 lead into halftime.

Riverland responded early in the second half, as Abdullahi Atanda Aderogba (Lagos, Nigeria) found the back of the net in the 64th minute, assisted by Josh Jones (Wirral England), to bring the Blue Devils level at 1–1.

However, Joliet regained the advantage in the 83rd minute on a goal from Aiden Shaughnessy, assisted again by Asenkerschbaumer, which proved to be the difference.

Goalkeeper Ricardo Guedez (Guanare-Portuguesa, Venezuela) made five saves in net for Riverland. 

Riverland finishes its 2025 campaign with another competitive showing, displaying strong effort and growth throughout the season. The Blue Devils finsih the year (9-7-1) overall with their third appearance in the NJCAA Midwest District Championship.
