Riverland Community College battled hard on the road Wednesday night but came up short in a 3–1 setback to Western Technical College (20–25, 25–19, 19–25, 18–25).
After dropping the opening frame, the Blue Devils responded with a strong second set behind efficient attacking, hitting .250 as a team to even the match at one apiece. Riverland stayed within striking distance in the third and fourth sets, but Western Tech's balanced offense proved the difference as the Cavaliers closed out the match.
Riverland was led by Brienna Brewer (Rapid City, SD), who tallied 8 kills, 3 service aces, and 12 total points, while setter Macey Johnson (Chandler, AZ) dished out 25 assists and added 4 kills, 7 aces, and 11.5 points in a standout performance. Brea Belting (Owatonna, MN) and Brenna Grade (Wausau, WI) each chipped in 8 kills, with Grade contributing defensively at the net with 2 block assists.
Defensively, libero Isis Walters (Faribault, MN) anchored the back row with 22 digs, while Brewer also added 21 digs.
With the result, Riverland moves to 4-3 on the season. The Blue Devils will look to bounce back on Friday with a rematch at home against Western Tech.
